Rowing 2200 km backwards along the Murray River is no small feat, and my aim is to visit rowing clubs along the way.
Corowa Rowing Club was the first stop, thanks to Beverley's introduction to Wes Canny.
On Sunday, after a much-needed oar sleeve repair by Wes and team, which involved a lot more than simple click clack of sleeves, Cy and I joined the crews.
Cy joined Wes in the tinny whereas I had the privilege of rowing with an experienced crew in a quad, coached by Wes, in a brand-new boat. The experience was exhilarating—rowing alongside skilled teammates was smooth, stable, and full of energy. I loved seeing juniors and masters rowing together, showcasing the club’s strong sense of community - and an 8 seater sculling boat!!
After an hour of rowing, including race starts and invaluable coaching feedback, we gathered for coffee. Receiving the Corowa Rowing Club medal was a very touching gesture, making the day even more special.
Later that day, Wes returned the fixed oars to our campsite plus snacks for our journey and we shared more conversation before a final goodbye.
The day left me feeling elated and grateful. A huge thank you to Wes Canny and Corowa Rowing Club for the support, camaraderie, encouragement, and unforgettable rowing opportunity!
