Wevers Row

Mother & son, 2550 km across Australia's longest river.

Rowing the Murray

My son Cy and I are setting off on a three-month expedition across the Murray, starting with a 345 km trek from the source of the Murray River through Mount Kosciuszko National Park before trading our boots for boats and following the Murray all the way to the sea. Along the way, we’ll face the elements, test our endurance, and camp under the stars as the river shapes our journey.

This trip is going to be a massive physical challenge, pushing our limits and proving that with determination and the right support, anything is possible. We hope to inspire people of all ages to embrace adventure and discover what they’re truly capable of.

Anja Wever

My name is Anja and I am a dreamer, adventurer, and a competitive master rower with the Balmain Rowing Club in Sydney, Australia.

Cy Wever-Jetis

Hi, I’m Cy, 18 years old and just finished school. Instead of taking a break or heading off for schoolies, I’ve dived straight into training for the 2025 Murray Kayak with my mum.

Resourceful and resilient, Anja found sanctuary in nature and animals at a young age.

This connection to the outdoors became my compass after leaving home at sixteen, where I learned to navigate life's challenges with quiet determination.

Now at fifty-three, I’m a passionate, competitive rower, and mother of three, embarking on my boldest adventure yet – not just to test my own limits, but to share something precious with my son. In a world dominated by screens and technology, I hope to show him the transformative power of nature and physical challenge.

Through this journey, captured on camera and shared with everyone, we aim to inspire you.

Cy is also drawn to the outdoors, and thrives on a challenge.

When my mum proposed rowing the Murray, it immediately felt like the kind of adventure I was meant to take on.

Though I’m new to kayaking, I’m eager to embrace the sport, fuelled by my love for being on the water. Some of my most peaceful moments come from early mornings on the harbour, and now, I’m ready to trade that for the vast, winding stretches of the Murray.

For me, this journey isn’t just about endurance—it’s about discovery, pushing limits, and experiencing the river in its raw and powerful form.

The Journey Ahead

Setting off end of February

Mt Kosciuszko, NSW

Starting with a hiking trek at Mount Kosciusko Charlottes Pass, we will walk through the national park, trailing the Murray river as it turns from a trickle into an increasingly larger stream.

Hume Dam, NSW

Our family will meet us at Hume Dam with our boats. From here, we will row out from the dam and begin the next leg of the journey.

445 km

Lake Mulwala, NSW

Although a beautiful lake, hundreds of dead trees rise from the water where there used to be a forest. This makes navigation tricky, especially since Anja will be rowing backwards.

Echuca, VIC

Echuca is where the Golbourn and Campaspe waters meet the Murray, and is home to many paddle steamers and houseboats.

1710 km

Wentworth, NSW

From Wentworth the final stretch of the journey, and arguably the most scenic, takes place, where the Darling and Murray rivers converge.

Lake Alexandrina, SA

Here the river spreads into the open but choppy waters of Lake Alexandrina. With no current to help you along, this is one of the toughest stretches.

Southern Ocean, SA

Where the river meets the sea, the Southern Ocean is where our journey ends. This is the mouth of the Murray, and the final destination.
